A Day of Reflection and Giving Thanks

New Zealand Latter-day Saints honour past and present servicemen and servicewomen

New Zealanders, Australians and others are pausing today to remember and give thanks for family members and others who currently serve their nation in the military or who have done so in years past.

At one Anzac Day service this morning — at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' meetinghouse in Pah Road, Royal Oak, Auckland — Elder O. Vincent Haleck and Sister Peggy Haleck joined with government, church and community leaders and members of the Church to mark the special day.

Among the guests at the service were Hon Sam Lotu-liga, Minister of Corrections, Minister for Ethnic Communities, Minister for Pacific Peoples, and Associate Minister of Health; and Su'a William Sio, Member of Parliament for  Mangere.

In many other community services  around New Zealand and Australia, Latter-day Saints stood shoulder to shoulder with friends and neighbours of other faiths in remembrance of those who have defended freedom of religion, freedom of conscience and other freedoms enjoyed today.
